Chair Kilkenny:

I respectfully urge you and the CCDC Board to approve the Fat City Loft Coastal Development Permit and allow the project to move forward.

I am aware that the applicant, GLJ Partners and Jonathan Segal Architects, has reached a design solution with the Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO) that saves and restores key historic portions of the Fat City Restaurant to its original 1941 Tops appearance everyone recognizes as a San Diego icon. The SOHO Board also unanimously supported a design which incorporates the Top’s building into the project.

Fat City/China Camp are now closed, and the property will remain in a state of blight if we do not redevelop the property. Despite what you may hear, this project will not cause the loss of jobs or negatively impact Solar Turbines. This project does not interfere with the Economic Prosperity Element of the General Plan, and this mix-used proposal is consistent with the PDO.

Your action to approve the Coastal Development Permit will preserve the historic value of the location and continue to beautify and enhance the Little Italy area.

Thank you,
